I'm considering getting my hands on a digital camera(only for snapshots and the like :) and leave the proper stuff to the real cameras). i can't find the time for printing anymore so it might have to be the way forward.
Anyway, I've got my eye on a certain camera, probably due to it's classical appearance and incredible reputation for quality lenses and me making a stance for the old skool.(Any guesses what?)
Any advice on any other cameras on the market before making the leap? Thanks

At a wild guess, I'd assume you're thinking of a Leica.

Cheapest one's I've seen start at around the £600 mark, for which you get a fantastic quality lens, no doubt about that, and will allow you to do much more than your standard compact. But you're paying a hefty premium for that name.

Depends what you're going to use it for really - for £600 you could get a decent Nikon (etc) DSLR with maybe an extra lens if you can find any deals and get a cheapo compact for taking snapshots which wouldn't matter if you left it in a boozer somewhere.

Also the Leica is actually made by Panasonic - some of their "Lumix" cameras use Leica lenses so might be worth looking at their range, pretty sure they won't be asking for 600 notes.

Hmmm. For £600 you could get a seriously quality body with a couple of good lenses etc., but would you want to spend all that on something you're going to use for "snaps"? No doubt any Leica would give you some very good images. For best value for money, I'd suggest an entry level DSLR. Or a decent bridge camera with a big zoom. That way you could have the controllability of an SLR with the simplicity of a point and shoot. Great for "snaps" and just as good if you want to get creative.

There's shitloads of my stuff on my Facebook. Here's a couple I've done recently;

A wild guess eh? Not idle gossip?

You could get 5 pairs of shoes from the market for the price of one pair of Campers!

Depends what you're going to use it for really - for £600 you could get a decent Nikon (etc) DSLR with maybe an extra lens if you can find any deals and get a cheapo compact for taking snapshots which wouldn't matter if you left it in a boozer somewhere.

The whole idea of going digital is so that i dont have to carry around different bodies and lenses.
Also the Leica is actually made by Panasonic - some of their "Lumix" cameras use Leica lenses so might be worth looking at their range, pretty sure they won't be asking for 600 notes.

I've found one around 400euros, which isn't bad at all.

top snapshots :wink: !
Where were they taken? At Richmond, we used to go down to the pet shop and buy anything that was considered snake food. Back at the studio we'd stick locusts etc in the fridge for a couple of hours and wait until they couldn't move. Then take them out, stick them onto branches and leaves and shoot away.It always ened in complete chaos as it wouldn't take long for them to warm up and start hopping all over the place. For weeks after you'd be finding scary looking things in the most unlikely places.
I only work in black and white so don't do that type of stuff. It's also the reason why I'm not bothered about having a zoom, give me wide any day.as I said to Muttley, the idea of having digital is to avoid carrying all your kit around, very old fashioned, but there you go.
anway all this has got me motivated and I'm going up to the castle to shoot. There's an air display over Malagueta so I might get lucky and catch some pilot bailing out of an F16.

PS, what's Facebook? :wink:
